Religious Education<click here for this week's RE program> On April 13, 2008, the Religious Education (RE) committee at First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Cohasset adopted a plan for religious education beginning September, 2008 through June, 2013. The RE plan reflects the collective feedback and suggestions obtained throughout the entire planning process. It includes experiential learning opportunities, age appropriate curricula, and content based on congregational feedback. Integrated throughout the entire RE program will be First Parish's commitment to environmental and social justice activism. Children and teenagers participating in the RE program will continue to engage in activities such as: Great Brewster Woods Stewardship, partneringwith The Trustees of Reservations for nature programming, farm work at Holly Hill Farm, Heifer International, and volunteering for Cradles to Crayons and Pine Street Inn. The core goal is for the children and youth of First Parish Unitarian Universalist to grow into a deep appreciation for their Unitarian Universalist identity and an enthusiastic commitment to give back to their congregation and larger community. Rev. Dr. Jan Carlsson-Bull Minister Welcome to the year that is already unfolding ~
One of my favorite things about being Unitarian-Universalist is what we offer our children and youth through experiences that stir heart and mind. This year at First Parish we have an abundance of such offerings: a fabulous Interim Director of Religious Education, Jim FitzGerald, now in his second year with us; a committed and enthusiastic RE Committee; teachers new and seasoned for our youngsters pre-K through 9th grade; a compelling Coming of Age program for our 7th-9th graders; and the prospect of a Senior High Youth group blending with that of First Parish/Old Ship in Hingham (still in need of adult coordinators from Cohasset!) Yes, our year is already unfolding.
Once a month, we worship across generations for the first segment of our service in the Meeting House. During those times, we seek to be inclusive, innovative, and imaginative as we stretch our spirits to embrace all who are part of this faith community we know as First Parish Unitarian Universalist in Cohasset.
Abundant thanks to all who are leading us in this venture—to Jim, to our RE Committee, to our dedicated teachers, and to each and every child and youth. Thanks also to our parents who ensure that religious education is a priority for your children. Thanks to all who make it happen through your enthusiasm and your stewardship of time, talents, and funds.
Come along! Join us on the journey of this year through religious education that is spiritually alive. Let's affirm together the promise and presence of each and every child among us and the child within us who is ever stretching and growing!
With love and thanksgiving for each of you Jan
